Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout is available for a limited time only at select Guinness pub outlets, including B. D. Riley's of course.
It commemmorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the 9,000-year lease on the Guinness Brewery at St James’s Gate, Dublin, Ireland. They are down to 8,750 years left before they have to renew :-)
Unlike Guinness Draught, this is a conventionally carbonated stout which pours in a standard 1-part pour from a standard tap. In the glass it is a dark rich ruby black color that is completely opaque, without the “surge” that characterizes Draught. The cream colored head starts out as a fluffy mix of large and small bubbles which dissipates to a thin film but still has enough retention to lace the glass. The beer remains consistently carbonated so a light swirl refreshes the head very nicely.

The mild nose has a faint dark roasted scent with a hint of sugary malts and roasted barley. The taste is silky smooth, mildly sweet without a great deal of complexity. Some light roasted barley flavor yields a subtle caramel and a small dose of bitterness from the triple hops used in the process. The stout has a bit more alcohol (5%) than Draught, which has 4.2% by volume.
The finish is quite pleasant and delivers touches of creamy dark chocolate, caramelized sugars and a nice dry roasty flavor. The beer will appeal to drinkers of Guinness, of course, but also to fans of Newcastle Brown Ale, Smithwicks and Bass Ale.
There is a large PDF of our music schedule for Sunday March 15th (St PRACTICE Day) and the big day, Tuesday March 17th. You can download the file here: http://www.bdrileys.com/im ages/StPatsWeekSchedule.pd f
Both days will be a blast if the past 8 years are any indication. No cover charge ever, no reservations either. Sunday especially is a family friendly day, with well-behaved kids welcome. Check the pub website for the latest, or call 512-494-1335 for details. SLAINTE!
It's coming up quickly folks--the week that squeezes more music and fun into 7 days than anyone should be allowed to experience.
We kick it off on Sunday March 15th with "Saint Practice Day" a day-long warmup for the big day just so you don't strain anything on the 17th.
We kick it off on Sunday March 15th with "Saint Practice Day" a day-long warmup for the big day just so you don't strain anything on the 17th.
We'll have live music, mostly Irish, all day starting at noon and wrapping up with a traditional Irish Tune Session about 8pm, till closing time at midnight. Our full menu including all our Irish specialties will be available till 10pm. Admission is free as always, and the day will be family friendly (at least for well-behaved kids!)
On Tuesday March 17th, it's the big event. Live music from 11am till midnight or so, when Sean Orr & Black Dagger will sing us out of St. Patrick's Day 2009. We'll serve up pints of Guinness and your favorite ales, our award-winning Fish & chips, Irish Stew, Shepherd's Pie and Corned Beef and Cabbage all day till 10pm, and admission is free.
It's a BIG day, and we look forward to seeing all our friends and regulars, and new visitors as well, but the day has some challenges. The pub runs at or near our capacity most of the day, so a short line at the door is often the order of the day. Please understand that everyone waits in line till we are below our fire code capacity, (one out--one in, etc) and if you go outside to smoke and there is a line to get in, you join that line at the back in order to be fair to all.

Come by and enjoy music from Texas, Ireland, Western Australia and beyond from 12-5 Wednesday through Saturday, or come at night as part of SXSW and enjoy the best in emerging artists from around the state and around the world.
Watch the pub website for our lineup and experience 6 bands per night playing 40-minute showcases for 4 nights of musical excess.
